Comprising three-quarters of the earth’s surface, oceans provide 3% of global GDP. They are responsible for the livelihoods of almost three billion people1 and provide homes to 50-80% of life on earth.2 Yet life under water is in danger. Depleted fisheries, polluted marine environments, and destroyed coastal habitats have all placed strain on life below water, threatening ecosystems around the world. As a highly biodiverse natural environment, and a crucial buffer against the effects of global warming, SDG 14 looks to conserve oceans, seas, and marine resources in light of the destructive impacts of human activity..
